History of Graphic Design Thesis Graphic design is an art that has undergone a lot of revolution in terms of both the historical context and the relevance and significance of art in various aspects of life. Graphic design has one of the longest histories, dating back to prehistoric and medieval era to the modern era of the modernists. It is therefore easy to conclude that graphic design is as old as humanity. many graphic designers have foreseen the this revolution , including legendary graphic designers such as Pablo Picasso, Brague Juan, Paul Rand and many others who have contributed greatly to the growth of the graphic design (Meggs Purvis, 2006). Rand’s work will be analyzed in three phases or periods, where he specialized in certain artistic works at the specific periods. Between 1937 to 11941, he specialized in book design and did a lot of media promotions through his graphical designs. Between 1941 to 1954, Paul Rand focused more on the creation of adverts and then since 1954, he decided to venture into the production of corporate graphic designs that actually formed a bulk of his last works. Paul Rand played a major role in terms of historical, social, and Cultural Revolution and influence. He is best known for championing of corporate social responsibility and professionalism by both the artists and the customers he worked for. He believed in giving his clients value for their money through his quality works and not exploiting his clients. He considered this as his moral responsibility (Rand, 1985).
